Swanage Seafishing

San Gina II

San Gina II is a 33ft Suffolk built in 1989 in Poole, she is powered by a 300hp ford mermaid inboard diesel giving a cruising speed of 12 knots. Skipped by Tom Greasty she’s ideally suited to longer trips and trips further offshore.

San Gina

San Gina I is a traditional Dorset ‘Berry boat’ 32foot long and built by Ron Berry in Weymouth in 1976. She’s fished from Swanage for the last 20 odd years as a charter boat and as such has an immense record of success. Skippered by the legend that is Doug she is Just the boat for those inshore fishing trips.

Doug

San Gina is skippered by Doug (or as some of you might know him, Captain Jack!) Doug has skippered San Gina for ten summer seasons, but has been fishing on boats and the shore since he was a boy and loves every minute of it. Me and Doug have fished together for around twenty-five years on the shore and at sea, so when I was looking for someone to run the boat there was only one man for the job.

Tom Greasty

San Gina II is skippered by me Tom Greasty. I’ve been fishing from the age of five, starting with coarse fishing and then sea fishing. At thirteen I started working aboard San Gina as crew and back then the boat was skippered by Gerry Randle. He had the boat built specially and knew a thing or two about fishing and the local area. I bought the boat in 1999 when Gerry finally retired (I think he was nearly eighty), then became the skipper of the boat at eighteen. Later in 2006 I bought San Gina II. I am also a volunteer lifeboat crew at Swanage and have been for 15 years .

Kev

Kev is a familiar face aboard San Gina II as an angler, but is now spending more time behind the helm. Kev has been fishing from the age of six on the shore and he really knows his stuff when it comes to catching fish. He spent most of his family holidays in Swanage fishing and playing on the water, and now spends all of his spare time with a rod in his hand!

January Report  14 February 2017

The whiting fishing at the start of the month has been some of the best I’ve ever seen. The size and quantity of the fish, around the 3-4lb mark! They are aggressive little fish that put up a good fight on light gear and are also great for the table!

Special thanks to Dougie

Special thanks to Dougie for a great time on a windy Sunday July 1 charter. All the lads enjoyed it and are up for another trip soon. Hopefully a bit calmer next time but fishing was good anyway.
